Local Track Activities this Weekend

This weekend, with a lot of caution and new protocols, local drivers had the chance to get back to the race track.

Friday evening was a 1MoreLap.ca lapping evening, the first at Calabogie Motorsports Park. It ran very well, as expected for events at Calabogie.

Saturday was the Calabogie Challenge Test and Tune. Local competitors had a chance to get their race cars out of winter storage and onto the track. A wide range of cars from the GT, Platinum and Libre were out from NASCAR Trucks, Nissan Micra Cup, a handful of Miata, Radicals and Formula cars.

Saturday evening was the first Calabogie Challenge Formula Libre race.

Club members Huw Leahy placed third, followed by Richard L’Abbé, and Bill Olders. Steve McCamus finished in seventh place, followed by Kimm MacKenzie. Sadly, Lew MacKenzie and Nigel Mortimer were classified as DNF. Great results for our members!

Many of the officials for the event were also from Ottawa SportsCar Club. There are always opportunities to join the officiating team.

Next Saturday will be the first GT and Platinum Challenge evening race, with an expected turn out above 20 entries. As with the Libre, there are no spectators and limits on crew.

Le Circuit Quyon was open for rental-karting and lapping on May 23 and 24.

Lombardy track was also open both days, with a program from the new Lombardy Raceway Karting Club.
