The 2019 Race Season is not that far away and now is the time to start thinking about what that is going to look like for you!!
The most important thing to be a Race Official is to have a passion for motorsport; want to be closer to what is happening, both on and off the race track; have good judgement; enjoy working with people; and be ready to try something different.
The best place to get involved is with the Calabogie Challenge Series with races usually held in the evening starting in May and running right through to September typically 2-3 per month. Each race requires five Race Officials and that includes: Starter, Pit Lane, False Grid, Operating Steward, Event Chief Steward, plus Pace Car Driver. Full training is provided rotating every race official through each position with mentors working closely with everyone until they get comfortable.
The typical Race Official works 3-5 events per season with some working more, depending on their own schedules. The more officials there are, the more flexibility there is – with last minute swap-outs due to conflicts always an option.
